DENVER, Colo. (KDVR) — Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed a bill into law on Wednesday that will add $30 million in rental assistance to the state’s existing program.
The bill, which was passed by the state legislature earlier this month, will provide funding for rental assistance for low-income residents who are struggling to make their rent payments. The funding will also be used to help prevent evictions and provide financial assistance to renters who have been evicted.
“This is a critical step to help ensure that Coloradans have a safe and stable place to call home,” Polis said in a statement. “This funding will provide much-needed relief to families who are struggling to make ends meet and prevent evictions that could lead to homelessness.”
The additional funding for rental assistance is part of a larger effort by the Polis administration to address the state’s affordable housing crisis. The administration has also invested in the construction of affordable housing units and created a new program to help first-time homebuyers.
